Level II: $3,774 per month (SR-18, Step C)
Level III: $4,079 to $4,968 per month (SR-20, Step C to H)
Note: The starting monthly salary for vacancies in Step C, is at the minimum rate of pay. For vacancies at Step C to H, hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
The basic objectives of Hawaii's chemical/mechanical plant pest control are: (1) to safeguard the land assets of the State from the encroachment and detriments of noxious weed and other plant pests, and (2) to prevent the introduction of noxious weed and other seeds and sale of low-quality or improperly labeled agricultural and vegetable seeds.
Noxious Weed Specialist II in state servicereceives progressive training in noxious weed and other plant pest control activities and, in a trainee capacity applies this knowledge to a wide range of work tasks typical of the higher-grade levels; and performs other duties as required.
Noxious Weed Specialist III performs technical research, development and regulatory work in noxious weed and other plant pest prevention, control and eradication; provides advisory services on the implementation of routine cooperative weed control projects; trains lower-level specialists; and performs other duties as required.
Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with amajor in agriculture or botanywith a minimum of one course in each of, and a total of 18 semester credit hours in the following areas: horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology or botany, and entomology.
Noxious Weed Specialist II Level: 6 months and
Noxious weed Specialist III Level: One and One-half years (1 1/2) of:
Progressively responsible work experience performing or supervising research, development, and regulatory work in the prevention, control, and eradication of noxious weeds and other plant pests. The experience must have provided applicants with the knowledge of methods of noxious weed and other plant pest prevention, control, and eradication and/or techniques of research in this field.
Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
Lifting and Carrying: Applicants must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds unassisted and lift and carry up to 75 pounds assisted by another person and/or with the use of equipment such as a hand truck.
Driver's License: You must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
